Police Chief, Phil Smith, and Special Projects Coordinator, Officer Taylor Merriss, stopped by this morning to say thank you for Sonitrol’s continued support of local law enforcement and let us know we’ve been nominated for the Community Award to be presented at the annual Policeman’s Ball in September. We are so excited for the nomination. Thank you, Evansville Police Department, and a special shout-out to Police Chief Smith and Officer Merriss!
Law Enforcement Appreciation Day 2023
For Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, (L.E.A.D.), Team Sonitrol thanks our amazing law enforcement officers serving our communities. To show our appreciation, our Evansville and Muncie locations delivered cookies from Granola Jar and cupcakes from Charmed Cupcake Company to various police departments and sheriff departments in our regions. Without the partnership Sonitrol has with our law enforcement officers, we couldn’t do what we do to protect businesses. THANK YOU, officers!
Union County Sheriff’s Office appreciation
Team Sonitrol’s C.Tom visited the Union County Sheriff’s Office with certificates of appreciation yesterday. They made an apprehension when they responded to a late night verified Sonitrol alarm at a coal mining business we monitor in Kentucky. A special shout out goes to Deputy Lee Chandler, Deputy Eric McCallister, and Sheriff Mickey Arnold. Thank you, officers, for all you do to fight crime. We love our relationship with law enforcement!
Apprehension celebration
Flavia, from Team Sonitrol, took Subway for lunch to say thank you to the team of officers who recently made two apprehensions at a local Subway we monitor. If Sonitrol is monitoring your business, the moment we determine a break-in is in progress, we dispatch law enforcement. Great job, EPD, keeping local businesses safe! Many thanks to Officer Cody Smith, Officer Jeremy McCrary, Officer Andrew Kingston, and Officer Eric Slaton!
Student and teacher safety

Call us today at 1(800) 444-1191 to find out about the Sonitrol Safe Schools program. We think student and teacher safety should be of the utmost priority.
School apprehension!
Law enforcement officers apprehended two intruders earlier this week at a Muncie area school after our Central Station operator, Liz, received an alarm and dispatched police. Sonitrol alarms keep properties protected 24 hours, 365 days a year. Our team of professionals is always on the job, and we will alert law enforcement the moment one of our alarms is triggered. Way to go, Muncie Police Department, Ball State Police Department, and Liz from Team Sonitrol!
In 1969, Doc Standring wanted to protect the community…
Our commitment to protecting the community began in 1969, when local dentist, Dr. William Standring, “Doc”, opened Sonitrol of Evansville. Doc’s cousin, the inventor Bob Baxter, had teamed up with a police officer in Anderson, Indiana just five years earlier and launched Sonitrol, the first of its kind verified alarm company that used audio technology to catch intruders. Unlike motion-based alarms that criminals knew how to bypass by simply stepping outside of the motion detector range, Sonitrol alarms provided wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling coverage with unique listening capabilities. This meant that if someone attempted to break-in from a non-conventional entry point, such as a ceiling or roof-top entrance, the audio sensor would hear the noise and alert the Central Station monitoring team. Doc was so impressed with this technology that he opened his own franchise in Evansville so he could provide verified alarms to the community and help police increase apprehensions.
One of Doc’s favorite memories was when the team at Sonitrol of Evansville and EPD apprehended someone entering through a local pharmacy’s roof the very first week the new Sonitrol alarm was installed. That same pharmacy had been plagued with repeated break-ins and theft up until Doc convinced them to try a Sonitrol alarm!
Today, over fifty years after Doc’s alarm company launched, our technology has expanded to offer verified video and audio monitoring, access control, fire monitoring, and more. With over 181,000 and counting criminal apprehensions, Sonitrol is a trusted name and a leader in security. We would love to give you and your business, your home, or property a detailed security plan, designed to suit your needs. Call us at 1-800-444-1191.

Join us for the EPD Foundation SWAT Challenge!
From its inception, Sonitrol has been a proud supporter of our men and women in blue. In fact, our company wouldn’t be here today if it hadn’t been for the teamwork of an inventor and a local police officer back in the early 1960s. We are so grateful for all that the Evansville Police Department does to protect and serve our community, which is one of the many reasons we are excited about next week’s EPD Foundation SWAT Challenge.
SWAT challenge, you say? I can hardly do a squat. There’s no need to worry. This unique, 5k urban obstacle course is a family-friendly event. With more than 20 SWAT team members, plus volunteers, stationed to assist you throughout the obstacle course, this event is about being part of the EPD team. Last year’s participants ranged from six-years-old to seniors. From tire and wall obstacles, to being able to run, jump, and slide over cars, this is a 5k unlike any other, and the EPD Foundation welcomes anyone who is up for the challenge to participate.
Proceeds from the event go towards scholarships for EPD family members and specialized equipment and training for the SWAT team. This year’s challenge is on Saturday, May 4th, Star Wars Day, so be prepared to see some Star Wars-themed obstacles and maybe even some characters. Join Sonitrol in supporting the men and women who sacrifice for us twenty-four hours a day to keep our community safe. Register your team or as an individual at www.epdfoundation.org. Together, we can back the blue.
