Make false alarms a thing of the past!
Tired of false alarms? We hear you! So was the retired police officer who founded Sonitrol…That’s what prompted the officer, Al Cronk, to team up with an inventor over fifty-five years ago to develop an alarm system that would accurately determine if a break-in was in progress. Traditional systems depend on motion detector equipment, which unfortunately, can easily be triggered by something as tiny as a warehouse mouse. In his career as a police officer, Cronk had responded to way too many false alarms. His inventor friend, Robert Baxter, came up with the perfect solution, the audio sensor. This innovative sound device launched the Sonitrol alarm, the most dependable and verified alarm system in the industry. Using this audio technology, Sonitrol detects sounds at the first sign of a break-in attempt. Before the would-be perpetrators have even gained access to a facility, our Central Station operators can listen in and hear them trying to gain entry. Our team immediately dispatches law enforcement, who can arrive on scene before anything has been stolen and usually before anyone has broken into the facility.
Because of Sonitrol’s capability to verify true break-ins, we have the fastest police response times and the lowest false alarm rates in the industry. If you want to ensure your business, school, or facility is protected around the clock and that false alarms are a thing of the past, contact us today for a free assessment from one of our security design consultants at (800) 444-1191. We look forward to providing you with security peace of mind.
Apprehension alert!
Evansville Police Department made two apprehensions after our Central Station team dispatched on a Sonitrol alarm. Just the other night, our 24/7 monitoring team received sounds of glass breaking at a local restaurant with a verified audio system by Sonitrol. Immediately, our operators dispatched law enforcement, who arrived on scene and took two suspects into custody. One of the perks of a Sonitrol audio or video alarm, is that it is silent. Would-be intruders never realize we have notified police and that they are on the way. This helps contribute to our high apprehension rate of 181,000 and counting. Way to go, Team Sonitrol and police! Safeguard your business or home with a Sonitrol system today. Call us at 1-800-444-1191 for a free assessment and to hear about our current specials.

Give me the best security system price…
One of the first questions many people ask a security provider is “How much does it cost?” To answer this simple question, let me explain some general guidelines for pricing a security system.
Investing in a security system is much like purchasing a new car. Depending on what you want, the price can change dramatically. You can purchase a new basic model Chevy Silverado for $25,000. Now add the comfortable options, such as power windows, air conditioning, MP3 player capabilities, heated seats, leather interior and built-in navigation and the price can quickly reach $40,000. Why would someone invest in these additional options considering they may sell or trade the vehicle in 5 years? Americans spend an average of 2 and 1/2 hours a day in their car, and they want to enjoy this time. They understand that they are making an investment and they don’t want to regret their decision down the road. Likewise, you are making an investment on keeping the things you value secure. A security system should be built to not only be accommodating to the user, but do the job in the worst case scenario. Unfortunately, many people just focus on the price per month. They want the cheapest, quickest system possible, sacrificing quality equipment, quick system communication to authorities and great customer service if these problems arise. There really is no such thing as a cookie cutter price if you are truly interested in a system that works. You need the best security system!
Now let’s look at some security system options that you may want to investigate before you purchase a system:
Choose the way you want your system to communicate
-
- IP – Also know as internet protocol. If you have high speed internet this method is for you. It eliminates the need for a phone line. Communications are automatically tested every 15 – 30 minutes to ensure an alarm will be properly received.
- Cellular – Also known as cell. If you have a cell signal where you want to install your system, this is another excellent way to communicate alarms. You can’t cut a cell phone line. If you go with IP or dial-up, a cell backup is an excellent option to ensure alarms have back-up communication.
- Dial-up – If you do not have internet or cell signal in your area, you will need a dial-up panel. Make sure you get one that sends a test signal once a day to your central station. Otherwise, you risk not having your system communicate until your provider’s next test which could be up to 30 days.
Keys or no keys – access
All systems today, from a simple home system to a complex office building can take advantage of this option. Users are provided with key fobs, similar to the one pictured here. You can use these fobs to open your home or business. You can arm and disarm your system in one small wave. You can also have them scheduled to only disarm the system at certain times. So if you have a business that doesn’t require your employees to be there after business hours, or you just want to keep your teenagers honest, these fobs are an excellent idea for you.
Cameras
Cameras have played an important part in our society in the last few years. From catching the suspected Boston Marathon bombers to busting the teenage party while mom and dad were away, cameras are becoming a popular security option. And with recent technological advances, a person can view live footage from their computer, laptop or smartphone. Investing in a good quality camera, with a great warranty versus the cheap warehouse store version can save you money, time and hassle down the road.
Water and Fire
Along with security, cameras, and key fobs, many companies also offer fully integrated systems that allow you to add fire and water monitoring to your business and home protection. While you may not want these options now, check to see that the system you are installing will support your complete wish list if you decide you want to add them later.
Whether you are installing a system in your home or business, you can not put a dollar amount on true peace of mind.

DIY Security Systems – Cost effective or installation nightmare?
Walk into any big box store and you can find DIY systems for your home or business. The seemingly inexpensive cost and “easy directions” would make any DIY guru seem up to this task. However, proper installation of a security system can make the difference between keeping your property and coming home to an empty house.
Before you grab the toolbox, here are some things to think about:
Finding the trap
DIY Security Systems seem appealing at a glance; however, it can be more complex than it seems. Even if installation is “user-friendly”, the decision of where to place the devices requires specialized knowledge. Without this knowledge, your system may not set the proper trap for the burglar leaving you unsecure. Sonitrol’s professional installers learn the layout of your location and install the components of a security system based on their expertise. They understand the habits of intruders and know what installation plan maximizes your security coverage. Cutting that expertise out of the security system installment process can lead to potentially dangerous gaps in your security. A professional will also know where to place devices to prevent false alarms which are punishable by fines in some cities.
It’s all in the little things
While DIY security systems may be tempting as a way to save money, installation damages and overlooked vulnerabilities add unseen costs that hiring a professional can avoid. Professional installers, like those at Sonitrol, have the experience and training to understand the little things that make a big difference. Professionals know the optimal locations for equipment that best secures your home or business. No putting up a device only to have to take it down and repair the damage.
Their expertise is also a great resource! They will take the time to show you all the ways to use your system like:
- Arming and diarming
- Arming while the building is occupied
- Using the duress or panic function
- What to do if the alarm is accidently set off.
Monitoring Matters
In an emergency, even high-tech DIY security systems make the owner responsible for contacting emergency personnel. If the owner steps away from the phone, puts it on silent or simply does not have service, the alarm may be missed. A professional 24 hour monitoring station like Sonitrol’s Five Diamond Central Station will instantly dispatch on a burglary or fire alarm. Every second is critical when there is an an emergency in your home or business. Response time greatly affects the outcome of the event. Professional monitoring stations provide peace of mind; your location will always be protected. Doing it right the first time can save you time and energy. Don’t sacrifice the safety of your location to save money. Put the task of protecting the things you love in the hands of professionals like Sonitrol Security.
Apprehension – Business security system prevents major loss
1:58 am – Wohlsen Construction
Sonitrol operators received a video alarm showing someone on the south side of the building. Law enforcement was immediately dispatched. Operators receive another alarm from inside the building and informed the police department. Police said no troopers would have been on the interior cameras. Troopers were able to apprehend one suspect with bolt cutters and other tools to break into the building.
Thank you to our wonderful law enforcement for protecting our communities.
By using a verified system, law enforcement was able to quickly locate the suspect and apprehend him before he left the location with the owners valuables. Though there is still the pain and headache of replacing the lock that was cut, and maybe a door, the property of the business is still in the hands of the owners. This system was installed less than a month ago, and it has already paid off.

5 Diamond Central Station – Educating for better Security Solutions
Security Solutions start with education!
The heart of any security company is their central operating station. Day in and day out, operators watch, waiting for an alarm to alert them of possible danger. These people are the first line of defense in the private sector of emergency response. They are also the brains of the operation. They must determine the scale of an alarm, whether or not it is false and provide law enforcement with accurate, detailed information. These watchful “warriors” typically go unnoticed until a life saving alarm occurs.
Because of their importance, these people should be meticulously trained. They must dispatch the proper responding branch of law enforcement, use customer provided information to alert the dispatch of authorities and follow-up to ensure the safety of everyone involved. In order to further their training, Sonitrol of Evansville has achieved certification as a Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA) Five Diamond Member.
What is CSAA Five Diamond Certification?
In order to obtain “Five Diamond Certification”, 100% of the central station operators must pass the CSAA Central Station Operator Training course. This course covers virtually all phases of central station communications with customers, law enforcement, fire and emergency services communications centers. Each and every operator must have passed the course and demonstrate:
- Proficiency in alarm verification;
- Proficiency in communications with the Public Service Answering Points, such as the Emergency 911 centers;
- Knowledge of electronic communications equipment, including radio;
- An understanding of the codes and standards of such organizations as Underwriters Laboratories, Factory Mutual, Nation Fire Protection Association and others; and
- Proficiency in the area of emergency preparedness under a wide scenario of possibilities.
Certification also requires companies to maintain and continually upgrade operator performance levels through education. Only 150 of the approximately 2,700 central stations operating today have been able to achieve a 5 Diamond Certification due to the high standards set by the CSAA for operations in central stations.
How does this certification benefit the owner of a security system?
We can all agree that greater education in any business is a beneficial and an invaluable commodity. Technology is constantly changing, and can therefore instantly change system communications. CSAA members stay updated to improve and constantly update equipment to stay current with every potential change in technology. CSAA also maintains an open communication with government agencies to stay updated on all regulatory and legislative changes to the security industry and alerts its members immediately so as to stay in compliance without disruption of service to customers.
This elite group of members work together to maintain excellence for our customers through networking and brainstorming. If you are interested in more information on our CSAA 5 Diamond Central Station, please contact us.
