Give me the best security system price…

One of the first questions many people ask a security provider is “How much does it cost?” To answer this simple question, let me explain some general guidelines for pricing a security system.

Investing in a security system is much like purchasing a new car. Depending on what you want, the price can change dramatically. You can purchase a new basic model Chevy Silverado for $25,000.  Now add the comfortable options, such as power windows, air conditioning, MP3 player capabilities, heated seats, leather interior and built-in navigation and the price can quickly reach $40,000. Why would someone invest in these additional options considering they may sell or trade the vehicle in 5 years?  Americans spend an average of 2 and 1/2 hours a day in their car, and they want to enjoy this time. They understand that they are making an investment and they don’t want to regret their decision down the road. Likewise, you are making an investment on keeping the things you value secure. A security system should be built to not only be accommodating to the user, but do the job in the worst case scenario. Unfortunately, many people just focus on the price per month. Choose the way you want your system to communicate

    1. IP – Also know as internet protocol. If you have high speed internet this method is for you. It eliminates the need for a phone line. Communications are automatically tested every 15 – 30 minutes to ensure an alarm will be properly received.
    2. Cellular – Also known as cell. If you have a cell signal where you want to install your system, this is another excellent way to communicate alarms. You can’t cut a cell phone line.  If you go with IP or dial-up, a cell backup is an excellent option to ensure alarms have back-up communication.
    3. Dial-up – If you do not have internet or cell signal in your area, you will need a dial-up panel. Make sure you get one that sends a test signal once a day to your central station.  Otherwise, you risk not having your system communicate until your provider’s next test which could be up to 30 days.

Keys or no keys – access

All systems today, from a simple home system to a complex office building can take advantage of this option. Users are provided with key fobs, similar to the one pictured here. You can use these fobs to open your home or business. You can arm and disarm your system in one small wave. You can also have them scheduled to only disarm the system at certain times. So if you have a business that doesn’t require your employees to be there after business hours, or you just want to keep your teenagers honest, these fobs are an excellent idea for you.

Cameras have played an important part in our society in the last few years. Apprehension – Business security system prevents major loss

Sonitrol operators received a video alarm showing someone on the south side of the building. Law enforcement was immediately dispatched. Operators receive another alarm from inside the building and informed the police department. Police said no troopers would have been on the interior cameras. Troopers were able to apprehend one suspect with bolt cutters and other tools to break into the building.

Thank you to our wonderful law enforcement for protecting our communities.

Though there is still the pain and headache of replacing the lock that was cut, and maybe a door, the property of the business is still in the hands of the owners. 5 Diamond Central Station – Educating for better Security Solutions

cs-iconThe heart of any security company is their central operating station. Day in and day out, operators watch, waiting for an alarm to alert them of possible danger. These people are the first line of defense in the private sector of emergency response. They are also the brains of the operation. They must determine the scale of an alarm, whether or not it is false and provide law enforcement with accurate, detailed information. These watchful “warriors” typically go unnoticed until a life saving alarm occurs.

Because of their importance, these people should be meticulously trained. They must dispatch the proper responding branch of law enforcement, use customer provided information to alert the dispatch of authorities and follow-up to ensure the safety of everyone involved. In order to further their training, Sonitrol of Evansville has achieved certification as a Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA) Five Diamond Member.

What is CSAA Five Diamond Certification?

In order to obtain “Five Diamond Certification”, 100% of the central station operators must pass the CSAA Central Station Operator Training course. This course covers virtually all phases of central station communications with customers, law enforcement, fire and emergency services communications centers. Each and every operator must have passed the course and demonstrate:

  • Proficiency in alarm verification;
  • Proficiency in communications with the Public Service Answering Points, such as the Emergency 911 centers;
  • Knowledge of electronic communications equipment, including radio;
  • An understanding of the codes and standards of such organizations as Underwriters Laboratories, Factory Mutual, Nation Fire Protection Association and others; and
  • Proficiency in the area of emergency preparedness under a wide scenario of possibilities.

Certification also requires companies to maintain and continually upgrade operator performance levels through education. Only 150 of the approximately 2,700 central stations operating today have been able to achieve a 5 Diamond Certification due to the high standards set by the CSAA for operations in central stations.

CSAA members stay updated to improve and constantly update equipment to stay current with every potential change in technology.
